Ormond Ballet's Swan Lake 2025

Act I: The Vow
Scene 1: The Palace Gardens
Prince Siegfried celebrates his coming-of-age with the court. The atmosphere is bittersweet; while he enjoys the festivities, he is pressured by the Queen Mother to choose a bride at tomorrow's royal ball. Gifted a crossbow, Siegfried seeks solace in the woods as dusk falls, drawn by a mysterious flight of swans across the moon.

Scene 2: The Lakeside
In the forest, Siegfried prepares to shoot a magnificent swan, but it transforms into a woman, **Odette**. She explains she is a princess cursed by the sorcerer **Von Rothbart** to live as a swan, a spell that can only be broken by a vow of true, eternal love. Siegfried falls deeply in love and swears his fidelity to her, promising to save her from the sorcerer’s grip.

Act II: The Betrayal and Sacrifice
Scene 3: The Royal Ball

The Great Hall is filled with prospective brides, but Siegfried’s heart remains at the lake. A stranger, Von Rothbart, arrives with his daughter **Odile**. Through dark magic, Odile appears as the mirror image of Odette, but dressed in black. Deceived by her aggressive charm and the magical disguise, Siegfried publicly swears his love to Odile. Von Rothbart reveals the trick; the vow to Odette is broken, and she is now doomed.

Scene 4: The Return to the Lake
A distraught Siegfried rushes back to the water's edge to find Odette. She is dying of a broken heart, and the other swan maidens mourn their fate. Von Rothbart arrives to claim his prize, but the lovers refuse to be parted. In a final act of defiance, they leap into the lake together. Their ultimate sacrifice destroys Von Rothbart’s power, and their spirits are seen rising above the water, finally united and free.
